Hi, and thanks so much for visiting my Website!

So, how did I get here—and how did you get to this here? Well, I can take a stab at the first question at least. My career in publishing—as a journalist and editor—has been quite a ride.

From 1984 through 1989, I worked in hospitals in medical-surgical units and also in hospital public affairs. From 1989 through 1994, I was, at various points, an allied health/medical book editor (for companies like Appleton & Lange and Plenum, where I had a chance to shepherd and help develop a couple of really cool books, such as Cultural Diversity in Health and Illness) and a managing editor for The American Journal of Surgery and The American Journal of Medicine.

Although I did some fun stuff along the way (like doing horror book reviews for Publisher’s Weekly, helping to organize the Bram Stoker Awards and developing a Writer’ Digest book for the Horror Writer’s Association called Writing Horror), there was a huge divide, though, between my personal philosophy on health (especially holistic healing) and the mainstream medical (“establishment”) ideology that I indirectly supported via my work in hospitals and medical publishing.

I began to crave a work life that matched my personal health and health-empowerment beliefs. Along came an opportunity to serve as editor-in-chief of Better Nutrition magazine from early 1995 (where I had to chance to work with the veteran health journalist, Frank Murray), where I stayed until 2002.

Since 1995—as a journalist, author and commentator—I’ve been privileged to focus on health, health freedom and the politics of healing and I have never, ever looked back.

I invite you to enjoy the site—and if you’re not enjoying it, please tell me what I can do or provide that will be of greater value to you or that will be more fun.

In good health,

James Gormley
